The Energy Information Administration again reported declining prices for retail gasoline and diesel fuel in its weekly update, saying the nationwide average for a gallon of regular gasoline fell 1.7 cents to $1.557. Diesel fuel dropped 2.1 cents for a $1.508 per gallon national average. Gasoline prices are averaging 16.4 cents per gallon higher than last year, with diesel fuel 20.6 cents per gallon above the comparable year-ago period.
Regular gasoline prices in the Midwest dipped 0.7 cents to $1.473 per gallon for the week ended April 28, yet gained 11.8 cents from the same week a year ago.
West Coast regular gasoline prices retreated 3.1 cents to $1.881 per gallon but gained 34.3 cents from the year earlier period, while California regular gasoline prices slid 3.2 cents to $1.971 per gallon for the week yet rose 37.0 cents from the same week in 2002.
