Telvent Energy Sponsors SIGMA Young Executives’ Group

--New SIGMA initiative reaches out to younger demographic within North America’s largest refined fuel wholesaler and retailer companies to develop education and networking opportunities.

Telvent, the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced last week that its refined fuels division is the premier sponsor of SIGMA’s new Young Executives’ group. This group will meet during SIGMA’s Executive Leadership Conference, Spring Convention, and Annual Meeting. Members will work to develop relevant educational topics, communication methods and networking events geared to meet the needs of emerging leaders within the SIGMA membership.

“Representing more than 260 companies, SIGMA members are responsible for selling approximately 37 percent of the estimated 172 billion gallons of the motor fuel sold in the U.S. in 2008. SIGMA members represent significant diversity within the industry and 79 percent are involved in gasoline retailing, 69 percent are involved in wholesaling, 48 percent transport product, 36 percent have bulk plant operations, and 13 percent operate terminals. The average SIGMA member has 10 or more suppliers. SIGMA members have long been recognized as the most aggressive, innovative, and price competitive segment of petroleum marketers.

“At a time when the motor fuel industry is changing — when fuel prices are volatile and the industry is more competitive, it makes sense for marketers to make connections and learn new techniques and best practices to help stay ahead of the curve,” said Kenneth A. Doyle, CAE, executive vice president of SIGMA. “Through the Young Executives’ initiative, we’re reaching out to young professionals and promoting the benefits of SIGMA membership to the next generation.”

“SIGMA represents the evolution of the petroleum marketing industry. Sponsoring the Young Executives’ group keeps us on the forefront of key issues affecting the industry,” said Karen Madden, vice president and general manager, Telvent Energy. “We’re proud of our status as a SIGMA Strategic Business Alliance Partner and plan to continue helping marketers maximize profits and gain efficiencies through supply chain and market intelligence services.”

SIGMA is the premier national trade association representing independent motor fuel chain retailers and marketers, both branded and unbranded. Representing more than 260 member companies, SIGMA's mission is to benefit members by helping them improve their ability to succeed in a free and fully competitive market for transportation fuels.
