The main production units at Valero Energy’s 210,000 bpd Delaware City, Delaware, refinery have been shut down, spokesman Bill Day confirmed last week.
Valero announced Nov. 20 that the refinery would be permanently shutdown due to poor economics, high operating costs and significant capital requirements. The company expects to report a pre-tax charge of roughly $1.7 billion to $1.8 billion related to the plant’s closure. The shutdown will affect approximately 550 employees at the facility.
