Residential heating oil prices rose 1.6cts at $2.763 gal during the week-ended Dec. 7, and were up 25.1cts or 10 percent from the corresponding 2008 price point, according to the Energy Information Administration.
The average cost for consumers along the East Coast inclined 1.7cts to $2.784 gal, which is 9.3 percent above the comparable year ago-period.
In New England, home heating oil averaged 2.1cts more on the week at $2.78 gal, while consumers in the Central Atlantic, on average, paid 1.6cts more than during the previous week at $2.818 gal. Residential heating oil prices in the Lower Atlantic dropped 0.3cts to $2.585 gal.
The Midwest heating oil price decreased 0.6cts on average during the week-ended Dec. 7 to $2.494 gal, which is 32.5cts, or 15 percent, more than during the comparable week a year ago.
