The national average for on-highway diesel fuel increased 6.5cts to $2.797 gal for the week-ended Jan. 4, the Energy Information Administration reported.
The weekly average is 50.6cts above the comparable year-ago period.
Consumers in the New England region paid the highest rate for on-highway diesel fuel at $2.935, which is 33.9cts more than the comparable year-ago period. The price increased 7.3cts.
Consumers paid the second-highest price for on-highway diesel fuel in the Central Atlantic region, where prices rose 7.5cts to $2.932 gal, which is 43.6cts more than the comparable year-ago period.
In the West Coast region, diesel prices inclined 6.7cts to $2.908 gal, which is 63.3cts above the year-ago price point.
In California, on-highway retail diesel fuel gained 5.7cts at $2.959 gal, a 72cts gain versus the retail value a year ago.
In the Midwest region, prices increased 6.4cts to $2.771 gal, which is 49.9cts more than last year.
On-highway diesel prices rose 7.8cts in the East Coast region at $2.827 gal, which is 44.7cts more than last year.
Prices rose 7.9cts in the Lower Atlantic region at $2.772 gal, which is 46.2cts more than the comparable year-ago period.
Consumers in the Gulf Coast region paid an average of $2.750 gal, up 6.1cts from the prior week, and up 52.2cts from a year ago.
Rocky Mountain diesel fuel prices increased 1.8cts to $2.746 gal, which is 53.1cts more than the comparable year-ago period.
