Residential heating oil prices shed 5.3cts at $2.899 gal during the week-ended Jan. 25, but the average is 49.9cts or 20.8 percent higher than the corresponding 2009 price point, according to the Energy Information Administration.
The average cost for consumers along the East Coast declined 5.2cts to $2.926 gal, which is 19.8 percent above the comparable year-ago period.
In New England, home heating oil averaged 6cts less on the week at $2.901 gal, while consumers in the Central Atlantic, on average, paid 5.2cts less than a week ago at $2.977 gal. Residential heating oil prices in the Lower Atlantic rose 0.3cts at $2.762 gal.
The Midwest heating oil price, on average, decreased 5.6cts to $2.554 gal, which is 56.7cts, or 28.5 percent, more than during the comparable week a year ago.
