Residential heating oil prices shed 3.1cts at $2.867 gal during the week-ended Feb. 1, but are up 47.8cts or 20 percent from the corresponding 2009 price point, according to the Energy Information Administration.
The average cost for consumers along the East Coast declined 3.2cts to $2.894 gal, which is 19 percent above the comparable year-ago period.
In New England, home heating oil averaged 3.3cts less on the week at $2.865 gal, while consumers in the Central Atlantic, on average, paid 3cts less than a week ago at $2.948 gal. Residential heating oil prices in the Lower Atlantic dropped 3.6cts at $2.726 gal.
The Midwest heating oil price, on average, decreased 2.6cts to $2.524 gal, which is 56cts, or 28.5 percent, more than during the comparable week a year ago.
