The national average for on-highway diesel fuel decreased 0.4cts to a $2.899 gal average for the week-ended July 19, down 22.8cts from the $3.127 gal 18-month high hit the week of May 10, the Energy Information Administration reported.
The weekly average is 40.3cts above the comparable year-ago period.
Consumers in the West Coast region paid the highest rate for on-highway diesel fuel at $3.042, which is 44.7cts more than the comparable year-ago period. The price decreased 1.5cts on the week.
In California, on-highway retail diesel fuel dropped 0.7cts to $3.116 gal, a 41.3cts gain versus the retail value a year ago.
Consumers paid the second-highest price for on-highway diesel fuel in the New England region, where diesel prices declined 0.2cts to $3.015 gal, which is 41.5cts above the year-ago price point.
In the Central Atlantic region, prices shed 1cts at $3.012 gal, which is 38.2cts more than the comparable year-ago period.
In the Midwest region, prices increased 0.1cts to $2.866 gal, which is 39.6cts more than last year.
On-highway diesel prices dropped 0.8cts in the East Coast region at $2.913 gal, which is 39.9cts more than last year.
Prices dropped 0.8cts in the Lower Atlantic region at $2.861 gal, which is 40.5cts more than the comparable year-ago period.
Consumers in the Gulf Coast region paid an average of $2.859 gal, up 0.2cts from the prior week, and up 41.6cts from a year ago.
Rocky Mountain diesel fuel prices decreased 1cts to $2.902 gal, which is 34.3cts more than the comparable year-ago period.
