Governor Keeps Watchful Eye on Prices at the Pump
California Agencies Scrutinize Gasoline, Diesel Prices
After returning a clean bill of health for retail gasoline and diesel fuel outlets in California, state agencies were instructed by Governor Gray Davis to continue to watch over gasoline and diesel fuel prices for evidence of price manipulation. The California Energy Commission and the Public Utilities Commission are both directed to investigate the price of retail gasoline, diesel fuel and natural gas for potential market manipulation, and to report to Davis monthly through the rest of the year.
"When Californians fill up at the pump, they shouldn't be the victims of highway robbery. Energy price spikes hurt every Californian...We'll continue to monitor the gasoline, natural gas, and diesel fuel markets to ensure no illegal activity occurs," said Davis.
