Illinois Senator Proposes National Energy Panel
Consumer Panel to Study Residential Price Spikes
On Friday (6/6), U.S. Senator Richard Durbin from Illinois proposed a bill to create a national Consumer and Small Business Energy Commission that would look into the causes of energy price spikes and issue recommendations on how to avert them in the future.
The Senate Democrat noted that since 1990, the price of gasoline, residential heating oil, residential natural gas, commercial natural gas, and industrial natural gas have all had significant fluctuations. Gasoline price spikes have become commonplace in the Midwest and on the West Coast.

Cumberland Farms to Buy 200 Exxon Service Stations
C-store Operator to Expand Northeast Gasoline Sales
Cumberland Farms, one of the nation’s largest convenience store petroleum marketers, is expanding its branded retail petroleum business in the Northeast by acquiring 200 Exxon-branded service stations from ConocoPhillips. The purchase price was not disclosed.
The Exxon-branded stations being purchased by Cumberland Farms, which are located in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York, will join the branded Gulf stations already owned by Cumberland Farms. The newly acquired stations will continue to provide Exxon products.
